Presale Orders: Sell Before You Package

Presale Orders: Sell Before You Package

The Problem

You've got a batch fermenting that customers are already asking about. You want to lock in those sales now—maybe even collect payment—but the beer isn't packaged yet and doesn't exist in your inventory. How do you create an order for something that technically doesn't exist in BarSight yet?

The Solution

BarSight's Presale feature lets you add items to orders by selecting just the product and package type—no stock required. You can take payment, generate invoices, and manage everything normally. The only difference? The order can't be shipped until you assign actual stock to each presale line item.

How to Use It

  1. Open or create an order from Brewery → Orders
  2. Click the Add Item button dropdown arrow
  3. Select Add Presale
  4. Choose the Product and Package type from the dropdowns
  5. Enter the quantity and price, then save

The order will show a warning indicator in your order list, reminding you that stock needs to be assigned before shipping.

Assigning Stock Later

Once your product is packaged and in inventory:

  1. Open the order (or click the glowing warning icon in the order list)
  2. Click on the presale line item
  3. Select the actual stock/lot from your inventory
  4. Save—the warning clears and you can ship normally

Pro Tip

Use the Incomplete Orders button on the Orders page to see all orders waiting for stock assignment in one place. This is especially handy during busy packaging days when you need to quickly fulfill presales.
