Import Customers from CSV in Minutes

Import Customers from CSV in Minutes

The Problem

You're migrating to BarSight from another system and have 300 customers in a spreadsheet. Manually entering each one—name, address, phone, email, contact person, notes—would take days of tedious data entry. You're tempted to just start fresh and lose all that relationship history, but you know that's not ideal. There has to be a faster way.

The Solution

BarSight's CSV import feature lets you upload hundreds of customers from a spreadsheet in minutes. Export from your old system, format the CSV file, upload, and you're done. Perfect for system migrations, bulk customer setup, or importing wholesale accounts from accounting software.

How to Use It

  1. Navigate to Brewery → Customers
  2. Click Import Customers (or similar import button)
  3. Download the CSV template to see required column format
  4. Prepare your CSV file with customer data:
    • Required columns: Customer Name, Contact Name
    • Optional columns: Address, City, Province/State, Postal Code, Phone, Email, Notes, Customer Type
    • Use the template format exactly—column names must match
  5. Click Choose File and select your CSV
  6. Click Upload and Import
  7. Review the import preview showing how many customers will be created
  8. Click Confirm Import

BarSight processes your file and creates customer records. You'll see a summary of how many were imported successfully and any errors that need fixing.

Pro Tip

Before importing, clean your data in the spreadsheet first. Fix formatting issues, remove duplicates, standardize province/state abbreviations, and validate phone numbers. A clean import saves hours of cleanup work later. Test with 5-10 customers first to verify formatting before importing hundreds.
