Setup Raw Ingredients with Price Per Unit (Not Per Bag)
The Problem
You buy malt in 50lb bags for $45 per bag. When you create a recipe that uses 38 pounds of malt, how much does that cost? You could do the math manually ($45 ÷ 50 = $0.90/lb × 38lb = $34.20), but that's tedious for every recipe. And what happens when your supplier changes their pricing? You'd have to recalculate every single recipe. There's got to be an easier way to track accurate ingredient costs.
The Solution
BarSight lets you configure inventory items with price-per-unit instead of price-per-package. Enter your malt as "$0.90 per pound" once, and the system automatically calculates costs for any recipe quantity—38 pounds, 15 pounds, 127 pounds, whatever you need. When prices change, update one number and all your recipes instantly reflect the new cost.
How to Use It
- Navigate to Brewery → Inventory
- Create or edit a raw ingredient item (malt, hops, adjuncts, etc.)
- In the item settings, find the Pricing section
- Configure your pricing:
- Unit of Measure: Select the base unit (pounds, kilograms, ounces, etc.)
- Price Per Unit: Enter cost per unit (e.g., $0.90 per pound)
- Package Size (optional): How you buy it (e.g., 50lb bags)
- Click Save
Now when you add this ingredient to recipes, BarSight automatically calculates the cost based on the quantity used. 38 pounds? $34.20. 15 pounds? $13.50. No manual math required.
