Deleting Kitchen Recipes

Deleting Kitchen Recipes

The Problem

You've got old recipes cluttering up your kitchen menu—test items, discontinued dishes, or mistakes that never should have been saved. You want to clean house, but you're not sure what happens when you hit delete. Will you lose important sales data?

The Solution

BarSight protects your business data while still letting you tidy up. If a recipe has never been sold, you can delete it completely. If it has been sold, the system blocks deletion to preserve your sales history—but you can mark it as unavailable instead.

How to Delete a Recipe

  1. Navigate to Kitchen → Recipes
  2. Click on the recipe you want to remove
  3. Click Remove Recipe in the toolbar
  4. Confirm the deletion when prompted

What Happens Behind the Scenes

  • Never sold? The recipe and all its ingredients are permanently deleted
  • Has sales history? You'll see the message: "You cannot delete a recipe that has been sold, instead mark it as not available."

Pro Tip

Instead of deleting recipes with sales history, uncheck the Available checkbox on the recipe form. This hides the item from ordering while keeping your historical data intact for reports and cost analysis.
