Taking Breaks on the Punch Clock

Taking Breaks on the Punch Clock

The Problem

Employees need to take meal breaks, but they forget to track them. When it's time to post hours, you're guessing how much unpaid break time to deduct. Inaccurate break tracking means inaccurate pay.

The Solution

The BarSight Punch Clock app lets employees start and end breaks right from their phone. Break times are recorded automatically and show up when you post hours—no guessing required.

How to Take a Break

  1. Open the BarSight app on your phone
  2. Make sure you're already clocked in
  3. Tap Start Break
  4. Select your break length (15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes)
  5. When you return, tap End Break

What Managers See

When posting hours, break time appears in the Timeclock Summary. The system calculates total break hours automatically. Managers can adjust the break deduction if needed before posting.

Multiple Breaks

Need a second break? Just tap Start Break again. Each break is tracked separately, and all break time is added together for your shift total.

Pro Tip

If you forget to end your break, it automatically ends when you clock out. The system calculates actual break time based on when you started it.
