Location Settings Explained
The Problem
You're trying to configure timecard settings, rounding rules, or payroll posting options, but you're not sure where these settings live or what they all mean. Every location in BarSight has its own configuration for how shifts, punches, breaks, and payroll work—but finding and understanding these settings can be confusing.
The Solution
Location Settings is your control panel for how scheduling, timecards, and payroll work at each of your facilities. Configure how punch times are rounded, whether to use scheduled or actual hours for payroll, break times, late punch approvals, and more—all in one place.
How to Access Location Settings
- Navigate to Settings → Locations
- Click on the location you want to configure
- Scroll to the relevant section (Scheduling, Tips and Posting Hours, or Punches)
- Adjust your settings
- Click Save at the bottom
Key Settings Explained
Posted Hours (Tips and Posting Hours section)
- Use Scheduled Hours: Employees are paid based on their scheduled shift times, regardless of when they actually clocked in/out
- Use Punched Hours: Employees are paid based on their actual punch clock times (enables rounding rules)
Rounding Rules (when Use Punched Hours is selected)
- Interval: Round punch times to nearest X minutes (e.g., 15 minutes = :00, :15, :30, :45)
- Grace Period: If employee punches within X minutes of scheduled time, snap to scheduled time
- Direction: Round to nearest interval, always up, or always down
Scheduling Section
- Shift Break Time: Default unpaid break duration (0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, or 1 hour)
- Shift Break Qualifier: Minimum shift length required to qualify for unpaid break
Punches Section
- Allow Punches from App: Enable/disable mobile app punch clock
- Auto Punch-Out: Time when system automatically clocks out employees who forgot
- Late Punch Approval: Require manager approval for punches X minutes late
Pro Tip
The most common setup is: Use Punched Hours with 15-minute rounding, 4-minute grace period, and nearest direction. This balances fairness (employees who arrive 2 minutes early get credit for scheduled time) with standardization (punch times round to clean 15-minute intervals for payroll).
