Bulk Merge Duplicates in One Pass

One powerful feature at a time.

Bulk Merge Duplicates in One Pass

The Problem

You imported a year of sales and now "Pale Ale" sits in your product list next to "Pale Ale 6 Pack", "Pale Ale Keg" and "Pale Ale Can". The same thing happened to a dozen customers. Merging them one at a time means opening each record, hunting through a long dropdown, confirming, and starting again. Fifteen duplicates is fifteen trips.

The Solution

Every list that can be merged now has a Merge Selected option under Bulk Actions. Tick all the duplicates, pick the one record that should survive, and BarSight merges them in a single confirmation. It even pre-selects the survivor for you by comparing names, ignoring pack words like "6 pack", "keg" and "can", so the three Pale Ale variants suggest "Pale Ale" on their own.

How to Use It

  1. Open the list: Brewery → Customers, Brewery → Recipes for products, or a product's Recipes box for its recipes.
  2. Tick the box on each duplicate you want to remove.
  3. Click Bulk Actions and choose Merge Selected.
  4. Check the Merge INTO dropdown. It is already set to the closest name match, so change it only if the guess is wrong.
  5. Click Merge, then confirm.

Orders, batches, packaged stock, deposits and pricing all move to the survivor, and the ticked records are removed. If one of them cannot be merged, the rest still go through and the message tells you which one to look at.

Pro Tip

The row three dot menu's Merge Product and Merge Recipe open the same window with just that one record, so you get the suggested survivor even when there is only one duplicate.
