Edit Repeating Task Templates
The Problem
Three months ago you created a daily opening checklist with 5 items. Now your process has changed—you need to add two new items and remove one that's no longer relevant. But this task repeats every day, and you don't want to recreate it from scratch or manually edit tomorrow's instance and every instance after that. You need to update the template so all future occurrences reflect the new checklist.
The Solution
BarSight lets you edit repeating task templates, which updates the master definition used to generate future task instances. Add items, remove items, change assignments, adjust the schedule—whatever you need. Changes apply to all future occurrences automatically, while past completed tasks remain unchanged for historical record-keeping.
How to Use It
- Navigate to Schedule → Tasks → Calendar
- Click on any instance of the repeating task
- Click Edit Template (not just "Edit"—that only edits today's instance)
- Make your changes to the master template:
- Update task title or description
- Add, remove, or reorder checklist items
- Change role or employee assignments
- Adjust repeat schedule or duration
- Click Save Template
All future instances of this repeating task will use the updated template. Today's task and previous tasks remain unchanged, preserving your historical completion records.

Pro Tip
When you realize a checklist needs updating, edit the template right away—don't just fix today's instance. Otherwise you'll forget, and tomorrow you'll be working from the old outdated checklist again. Update once, benefit forever.
