Track Every Keg with Serial Numbers

One powerful feature at a time.

Track Every Keg with Serial Numbers

The Problem

When you're tracking keg deposits, you need to know exactly which kegs went to which customer. But how do you add 30 new keg shells to your inventory without manually creating each one?

The Solution

BarSight's Single Item Tracking feature automatically splits bulk purchases into individually numbered kegs. Order 30 kegs on a purchase order, and when you receive them, you'll have 30 kegs each with their own serial number.

Setting It Up

First, make sure your keg item is configured for serial number tracking:

  1. Go to Brewery → Inventory and open your keg item
  2. Under Resale Settings, enable Enable Customer Deposit
  3. Check Require Single Item Tracking
  4. Click Save

Adding New Kegs

  1. Go to Brewery → Purchases
  2. Click Create Purchase and select your vendor
  3. On the purchase order, click Add Item
  4. Select your keg item and enter quantity (e.g., 30)
  5. When ready, click Receive Purchase
  6. Click Add to Inventory

What Happens Behind the Scenes

When you add 30 kegs to a purchase order, BarSight automatically creates 30 separate line items. Each line gets its own serial number when received (like PO2025.1, PO2025.2, etc.). This means every keg is individually trackable from the moment it enters your inventory.

Pro Tip

When fulfilling customer orders, you'll see checkboxes next to each keg instead of a quantity field. This lets you select exactly which kegs to assign, making deposit tracking foolproof.
